Codility scoring is fully deterministic and explainable. Criteria are fixed and weighted before a task is released, cut scores are reviewed for adverse impact, and the method is published in a 76-page Technical Manual. HackerRank does not publish an equivalent account of how its scores are constructed, so ask the vendor to walk you through one.

What happens when a candidate uses AI during a Codility assessment?

You choose whether AI is in the room, and you get evidence either way. With the AI Assistant enabled, every interaction is captured as reviewable AI activity, and the score stays on the work outcome. With it disabled, the integrity stack is designed to surface outside help: code pasted in from elsewhere, a copied task description, time away from the environment, abnormally fast completion, multiple IP addresses, and a code evolution timeline that replays how the solution was built, so a sudden large insertion is visible rather than inferred. Typing pattern detection is designed to flag solutions retyped line by line from a second screen. Cheating apps detection runs through the Codility Desktop App and is designed to surface helper apps that hide themselves from screen capture. Similarity Check compares submissions across candidates and ends in manual confirmation by design.

Those signals resolve into one deterministic Integrity Risk level that shows which signals contributed, so a reviewer sees the reasoning behind the flag. Signals route to a human and never auto-reject a candidate.
