Today’s world is driven by the sharing, storing, and securing of data. But with the rapid growth of information and communications industries, how this data is shared and protected has become a pain point for many organizations worldwide.

That’s why we’re happy to unveil the latest effort supporting our commitment to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance and data privacy in the form of available EU data hosting. This enhancement to our platform allows new Codility customers to elect to store their Codility data on European soil – because even if your team isn’t based in the EU, your engineering candidates may be.

Here’s why it was so crucial for Codility to be GDPR compliant and why we’re incredibly excited about what this update will mean for our customers.

Let’s dive right in!

Why Is This Important?

In July of 2020, the Court of Justice of the European Union issued a judgment declaring the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework invalid. The framework was designed to provide companies in either region to pass personal data across borders while adhering to data privacy regulations. But in light of the new judgment, it’s been suggested that the global organizations whose data handling processes are predicated on this framework may no longer be compliant with GDPR.

Regulations aside, some European organizations strongly prefer to host their data closer to home for other reasons. As the global leader in tech hiring, we understand these concerns and needs, which is why we need to ensure all Codility clients have peace of mind when it comes to their data.

Why We’re Excited

The best part about this new capability is how easy it is for our customers to employ. Here’s how it works:

  1. When a new Codility account is created, the customer chooses whether they want their data housed in the default U.S. data servers (AWS U.S. East region) or AWS EU servers in Germany.
  2. From there, end users simply log in with their credentials on our main login page.

Yes, it’s that easy! There are no new URLs to remember, and you’ll still enjoy all the same benefits on offer like SSO, analytics, and SAML integration enhancements. Sometimes the best features are the ones you never see.
