Codility | Technical Assessments with Full AI Control

Codility Screen & Interview

One platform. Full control over how AI shows up in your assessments.

Some roles need candidates who can deliver without AI scaffolding. Others need engineers who can build with AI effectively. Codility gives you granular control over AI in every assessment, with layered integrity signals and reviewable evidence regardless of which posture you choose.

Lock AI off for pure skill measurement, or enable it with full interaction logging
Layered proctoring detects external AI usage, retyping patterns, and screen-invisible tools
Reviewable evidence for every candidate: code evolution, behavioural signals, identity verification

The challenge

Every role needs a different AI posture. Most platforms force one.

In the past twelve months, screen-share-invisible AI tools have moved from niche to mainstream. Some roles need engineers who can work independently without AI. Others need engineers who can collaborate with AI tools effectively. Most assessment platforms force you to choose one policy for every role.

Blanket AI bans hide real capability

When you lock out AI entirely across every role, you lose signal on engineers who need AI collaboration skills in production. You assess a workflow that no longer exists for many teams.

Blanket AI access hides real skill

When AI tools are available with no visibility, scores cluster above 90%. You cannot differentiate engineers who understand the code from those who delegated the task to a generator.

Paste detection misses the new patterns

Candidates now retype AI-generated solutions line by line rather than pasting them. Traditional copy-paste monitoring does not surface this behaviour.

Results without evidence stall decisions

A pass/fail score with no supporting evidence forces hiring managers to add follow-up interviews. Every additional stage slows time-to-hire and increases engineering review burden.

AI posture control

Same platform. Different rules for different roles.

All AI features are disabled by default at the account level. Your administrators choose the posture per assessment: restricted, enabled, or role-by-role. Every AI interaction is logged and visible to reviewers.

AI Restricted

Roles that require independent proficiency

Infrastructure, IaC, compliance-critical, security

  • Off Cody AI Assistant
  • Off AI Co-Pilot
  • On Pattern Detection for external AI tools
  • On Similarity Check for AI-generated code
  • On Typing Pattern Detection
  • On Full behavioural proctoring

Candidates complete tasks with no AI assistance. Integrity signals detect any use of external AI tools.

AI Enabled

Roles where AI collaboration is part of the job

Full-stack, backend, data engineering, AI/ML

  • On Cody AI Assistant, all interactions logged
  • On AI Co-Pilot, prompts and completions captured
  • On AI Follow-Up Questions after submission
  • On Pattern Detection
  • On Similarity Check
  • On Full behavioural proctoring

Candidates work with AI the way they would in production. Reviewers see every prompt, suggestion, and decision.

Account-level defaults lock AI off. Assessment-level overrides let you enable AI per role. Every setting change is auditable.

Integrity signals

Layered evidence across every assessment

No single integrity check covers every scenario. Codility layers behavioural, identity, similarity, and visual signals into one reviewable record. Integrity Risk aggregates all signals into a risk level. The final decision stays with a human reviewer.

Behavioural Proctoring

Automatic detection of suspicious signals: code pasted from external sources, task description copied, time away from the IDE, and abnormally fast completion. In Interview, signals surface live to the interviewer.

Screen Interview

Code Evolution Chart

Visual timeline of how the candidate’s code changed over time. Proctoring events are overlaid on the code history, surfacing sudden large insertions and other suspicious patterns.

Screen Interview

Typing Pattern Detection

Identifies candidates who retype AI-generated solutions line by line from an external source. Analyses typing behaviour after submission, with zero disruption during the assessment.

Screen

Similarity Check

Automated cross-candidate plagiarism detection. Compares submissions against other candidates and flags matches for manual review. Also detects AI-generated code patterns. Positive matches elevate Integrity Risk to High.

ID Verification

Candidates verify their identity with a government-issued ID before the assessment begins. Results feed into the Integrity Risk under the Identity and Network category.

The shift

From a single policy to role-level precision

Without Codility With Codility
One AI policy forced across every role. Ban AI and lose signal, or allow it and lose trust. Role-by-role AI posture. Restrict AI where you need independent proficiency, enable it where AI collaboration matters.
Hiring managers add extra interview stages because they do not trust the assessment result Reviewable evidence for every candidate. Hiring managers make faster decisions with fewer follow-up stages.
Candidates bypass paste detection by retyping AI-generated code. Fraud goes undetected. Typing Pattern Detection and Similarity Check catch the patterns paste detection misses. Flagged candidates surface automatically.
No candidate identity check. Proxy test-takers go unnoticed until the interview stage. Government-issued ID verification before the first task. Proxy candidates are flagged before they consume engineering review time.
Screening and interview tools run on separate platforms with separate logins and no shared data One platform, one audit trail, one set of integrity settings across Screen and Interview.

The platform

Two tools. One evaluation framework.

Codility Screen

Standardised technical assessments at scale. Task libraries covering 80+ languages and frameworks, custom tasks for infrastructure-specific work, configurable time limits, and full proctoring. AI locked off, integrity signals active on every session.

Async Scalable Automated scoring

Codility Interview

Live technical interviews in a shared VS Code environment with dev containers, sidecar services, and whiteboard. Behavioural proctoring signals surface to the interviewer in real time. Full session recording and transcript provide a reviewable record.

How it works

Configure once. Evidence collects automatically.

Step 1

Set AI posture and integrity levels

Your administrator configures account-level defaults: AI off, proctoring on. For each assessment or role, override the AI posture to match the requirements. Settings lock once the first candidate is invited.

Step 2

Candidates complete the assessment

Integrity signals capture automatically during every session. Behavioural events, code changes, AI interactions, and identity verification happen without disrupting the candidate experience.

Step 3

Review layered evidence for every candidate

The Integrity Risk widget on each candidate report shows the aggregated risk level and the signals that contributed. Drill into code evolution, AI interaction logs, video playback, or specific behavioural events.
